Lighthouse Studios has remained buzzing throughout Q2, albeit from a distance! Working from home has not been without its challenges, however activity has remained at peak levels. Here is a round up of some of our latest news!

The Cuphead Show features at Annecy 2020

Due to Coronavirus restrictions, this year’s Annecy festival was delivered exclusively online. Despite this departure from its usual format, the festival was a resounding success. What we were most excited about however was the Work in Progress segment, where audiences would receive their first glance of the eagerly anticipated Netflix production, The Cuphead Show. Our crew has been working tirelessly on this show and we are very proud of the work we have done on it to date. Based on a video game by Studio MDHR, this cult classic has hordes of loyal fans the world over, and its 1920’s style animation techniques are instantly recognisable. Working on a show like this requires a constant balancing act of expectations and feasibility, so we were over the moon with its positive audience reception. The Cuphead Show looks set to be a big hit, both for those familiar with the video game on which it is based, and for those who are yet to witness the beauty of the Inkwell Isles!

We’ve got a new interior design!

From an operational standpoint, we have been extremely busy preparing our studios for the imminent return of our Lighthouse-keepers. Hand sanitiser and paper towel dispensers have been installed throughout the building. Zoned areas have been created. Crew members have been assigned to their various zones. Screens have been erected. A new registration process is in place to facilitate temperature checking. Entry and exit times have been staggered and assigned. Signage has been fixed to the walls of our corridors, bathrooms and rooms. In our homeplace of Kieran’s College we have the luxury of ample space, which means that we have been able to convert a number of rooms into additional studios. We have also been able to create individual workstations for those in high risk categories. Our crew is excited to be reunited with one another – and when your studio looks like ours who can blame them!

Big announcement

Fanfare please!! Lighthouse Studios is delighted to announce that we will be working on the upcoming production of Little Ellen, a new Warner Bros. animated series about the life of actress, comedienne and TV host Ellen DeGeneres! Ellen and Warner Bros also previously teamed up on Green Eggs and Ham, an adaptation of a Dr Seuss novel.

Of course, a new production means a new production team, so we anticipate hiring a host of different roles over the coming months. Watch this space – and keep checking out our careers page too!

Claire Finn joins the board of Animation Ireland

The Irish animation sector has been experiencing huge growth in recent times. Despite the pandemic, this growth shows no signs of slowing and Animation Ireland’s newly appointed CEO, Ronan McCabe, has stated that he is on a mission to ensure “that Ireland continues to be a leading global destination for animation production”.

A key contributor to this mission will be Claire Finn, who we are delighted to announce has become the newest Member of the Board of Animation Ireland, a body that is at the very forefront of promoting Ireland’s indigenous animation sector on a global scale. Claire is already a huge advocate for the Irish animation industry both at home and abroad, and also just happens to be the Managing Director here at Lighthouse Studios!

Huge congratulations and well wishes to Claire in her new role.

Welcome to all our new starters from Q2!

We’d like to give a huge shout-out to all our new starters from Q2! These intrepid crew members joined our studio at a really intense time, during which we unfortunately couldn’t give them the warm Lighthouse welcome we are famous for. The resilience and perseverance that they – and indeed the rest of our crew – have shown has been really something!

We are also very excited to welcome Kevin Quigley, who has joined us as our brand-new Training and Development Co-ordinator. Kevin will be instrumental in helping us to shape our training programmes and achieve our strategic goals over H2 and beyond.

Last but not least, production is continuing full steam ahead on a secret feature that we are really enjoying working on – very exciting stuff.

Stay ‘tooned’ for more updates!
