To be a director you need to know each stage of the animation process, from the rough draft of the script right through to the final mix. To give aspiring directors an insight into the full breath of the director’s job, we set up the Lighthouse Director’s Course. Over six weeks, we go through each stage of pre-production, production and post-production, examining what’s happening, what the director’s role is and how to handle the challenges along the way.

The course involves a fair amount of extra work on sample scripts, storyboards and designs (a heavy workload is the reality of life as a director!). There’s also time in the edit suite and an invitation to a final mix so you can see and hear what happens once the picture is locked.

We understand that preparation is everything and that training is key. Passing on what we’ve learned to the next person coming up is a big part of the Lighthouse culture.
